No Users / Inconsistent connection

  • Hello

    I've been experiencing inconsistent connections between users.

    For example. (dev.pro*****.com/vid)

    If I open up one instance on one computer and another on the same computer, it usually connects without a problem and I can see myself twice.

    If I open up one instance on one computer and another instance on another computer on the same network, it doesn't usually connect, and will just indicate "No users found". If you look under system info it says 1 user(s)online and calling… but it never connects?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Eventually, I will want to generate links that can be link two connections together by each others username or session id.

    Thanks

  • Try connecting with "Connect me to user ID" while using the 2nd user ID. You can also achieve it via HTML/Javascript or PHP: http://www.videosoftware.pro/forum/THREAD-user-name-saved-in-local-shared-object

    Sample: http://demo.videosoftware.pro/rvc/index.html?uname=jaehdawg *check your username after connecting

    <title>Login JabberCam</title>

    Username:

    Partner:

    Auto Connect:

    ```- get rid of the "" in the url if generated
  • You can easily use this method by pulling usernames from the database -with PHP for example- and connecting after a click on the username:
    $user_id = "myName";
    $partner_id = "chatPartner";
    $siteurl = "demo.videosoftware.pro/rvc/index.html";
    $link = "http://" . $siteurl . "?uname=" . $user_id . "&pname=" . $partner_id . "&uconnect=true";
    echo '
    [' . $partner_id . '](' . $link . ')
    ';
    will generate the following URL with the partner-name as anchor: chatPartner
  • Thanks!
    I noticed login.php is from the code that you referenced. Is there a way I can disable the prompt to enter a name if I pass a username in?
  • Yes, remove the input box and create a hidden input.
  • @'Video:
    Yes, remove the input box and create a hidden input.
    I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. The input box in the flash portion. The "Name (or nickname) and Web Camera is required to get started" box where it wants you to type in a nickname.
    I've noticed when you use the login.php, it doesn't matter which nickname you type in it will change it to whatever you've defined.
    Next, I've noticed that it doesn't seem to automatically connect.
    This is what I've tried.
    Computer 1
    • Use login.php
    • Specify a username and partner, click auto connect.
    • input any username
    • it says it can't find anyone and keeps on searching
    Computer 2
    • Use login.php
    • Specify a username and partner, click auto connect.
    • input any username
    • it says it can't find anyone and keeps on searching
    If I go to the settings -> System Settings and use "Connect me to (User ID), uncheck Auto NEXT and hit connect it will connect me.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Lastly, could you please remove the dev url that I posted in very first post? It's been to long since i've posted and I can't modify it anymore.
    Thanks
    • to remove the login screen, edit /jabbercam/config.php and change $LOGIN_SCREEN_ENABLED to "false".
    • the php itself does not work unless you fix it, remove the " characters from the URL. Anyway is should not be used since it was written once to show the connecting method in a specific case. There is a post that gives a better way for passing variables like user ID to RVC. We never used the login.php sample for anything else but testing login and passing variables. The method described by GarrethNBF should work: http://www.videosoftware.pro/forum/THREAD-2-questions-Disabling-sounds-and-using-session-based-usernames?pid=1560#pid1560
    SVC has a way better login, passing several variables like username, gender, location, etc. to the Flash application via HTML/Javascript. I didn't see the connection to other user ID but it is possible by using a list you get from database or inside the swf. I am not sure if it is included in the stable release but saw it working in alpha versions. Try this demo, first with facebook than log out from your facebook account and test it without: http://demo.videosoftware.pro/svc/
    Something is going on with version 0.8 that may bring back some features we loved like "click to call" wit a user list or video chat with more people at the same time. In early beta versions, you could call 4-6 or even more people and have 8-9 video windows open with different users. This SVC-SR release does not offer these great functions but they are present in the core and will be back for sure: http://www.videosoftware.pro/news
